Tackling Patient Safety and Quality Management Challenges: An Integrated Approach

11:00 ICRA 2.0 Updates: Improving Patient Safety
In this keynote address for Patient Safety NOW, presenter Marge McFarlane will discuss updates to the American Society for HealthCare Engineering (ASHE) risk assessments for reducing the risk of infections during construction, renovation, and operations.

This revised process promotes the efforts of a multidisciplinary team while identifying and implementing maintenance, testing and inspection infection prevention precautions as well as mitigation activities for different levels of construction and renovation in healthcare facilities. Staff turnover, new leaders, and a changing environment are all challenges for effectively defining, implementing, and monitoring the step-by-step infection prevention guidelines that need to be followed.

McFarlane will outline the regulatory requirements for conducting preconstruction risk assessments with the inclusion of water management for Legionella and other waterborne pathogens.

Speaker: Marge McFarlane, PHD, MT(ASCP), CJCP, CHSP, CHFM, HEM, MEPPrincipal, Superior Performance, LLC

12:00 Tackling Patient Safety and Quality Management Challenges: An Integrated Approach

Risks are more interconnected than ever before. Increasingly, they unfold across departments, affect multiple roles, and have impacts at various levels within healthcare systems.

Healthcare risk management isn’t merely a matter of saving money, improving efficiencies, or avoiding reputational damage. Incidents and errors can have devastating consequences on patients’ lives. A meaningful focus on patient safety combined with continuous quality improvement are essential for achieving desired outcomes. Motivated by a guiding purpose and values, and supported by the right tools and technology, healthcare organizations can implement sustainable changes to improve processes and systems for the future.

Join Elsie Lindgren (Vice President, Patient Safety and High Reliability for Advocate Health) and Anooja Cannon (Senior Market Strategy Lead with Origami Risk) to learn how an integrated approach to risk, safety, and quality, backed by fully-integrated risk management technology, can positively impact patient safety culture and contribute to continued process improvement.

Speaker: Elsie Lindgren, RN, BSN, CPPS - Vice President, Patient Safety and High Reliability
